This course explores food from a variety of perspectives, underlining its centrality to notions of social and environmental justice. Issues that may be considered include food, identity and memory, local and global food distribution, ethical food production, gender roles and food, resistance to acculturation through ethnic cuisine and the fetishizing of particular foodstuffs. Students will have the chance to engage in an experiential learning opportunity, working together in groups on a food related theme.
