Laboratory Techniques in Biochemistry

This practical laboratory course introduces many fundamental techniques commonly used to perform biochemical research. Background theory and principles are presented as well as an emphasis on best practices for experimental design and implementation. Techniques encountered will include pipetting, fluorimetry, spectrophotometry, DNA manipulation, protein purification and enzyme kinetics, and various biophysical characterisation procedures. Students will gain proficiency in working with a variety of biochemical samples, learn how to design, record and interpret a variety of biochemical data, and will develop their scientific literacy and presentation skills.
