The Military Revolution is a key concept in premodern history. It argues that beginning in Europe in the sixteenth century, changes in weaponry and modes of fighting provoked cultural, social and political transformations. Furthermore, the Military Revolution was a key cause for the expansion of Europe into the wider world. This course will critically analyze the Military Revolution. It will assess the conceptís value and determine its limits. In particular, it will ask: can the Military Revolution account for the rise of the west over the rest of the world?{P}{G}
