Ottomans, Armenians & Genocide
0.5 Credit

Hours per week:
  • Lecture/Discussion: 3

This course addresses the events during WWI that led to the near decimation of the Christian population of Ottoman Anatolia. We consider the historian's responsibilities when examining the question of genocide: how historians locate, evaluate and use sources to reconstruct events; how we must deconstruct narratives that reflect the contexts in which they were created; and how we must prosecute interpretations of the past, sensitive to the imperative for accuracy and the desire for objectivity.{G}
